  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Looks like you found a winner, Claire! That pie would never fly over here, but luckily I don't have to wait too long to return to the land of peanut butter (and peanut butter and chocolate) sweets. Not that that's a good enough reason to go home.

The crust was so thin you didn't know how to judge it?
I'm not sure either, but the whole thing sounds delicious.
